Policies and Procedures

Circulation Policies and DeMasi Library Procedures


Circulation Policy- Elementary Students:

~Students in grades K-1 may check out 1 item per week.
~Students in grades 2-3 may check out 2 items per week.
~Students in grades 4-5 may check out 3 items per week.

~Library materials are checked out for a period of one week. 
~Students in grades 2-5 have the option to renew a title twice before it is checked back into the system.


Circulation Policy- Middle School Students:

~Students in grades 6-8 may check out up to 5 items at a time.
~E-Books and audiobooks are available for all students by logging into the library catalog.
~Students are welcome to find materials from all areas of the collection including Elementary titles.
~YA (Young Adult) materials are available to all middle school students.  Students are taught how to self-select materials and all parents are encouraged to discuss with their children what they are reading.

General Library Policies for all students:

~Students will be respectful of all materials, technology, and other visitors in the Media Center.
~All students may take out additional titles for class projects by speaking to Ms. Schaffer.
~Students are welcome to visit the library at any time with teacher permission. 
~No student will not be charged late fines.
~Students who have not returned late items will be unable to check out new titles until overdue items are returned.
~Students requesting materials that have already been checked out will be placed on a hold list. The hold list is first come, first served. 
~Fees are only collected for lost or damaged items.
~Students are responsible for proper care of books, including elementary students. Damage fees are assessed depending on the state of the returned item.
~
Late/lost notices will only be handed out at the end of the school year unless a book is missing for more than 3 weeks.  For middle school students this will result in a block on their Genesis account until the book has been returned or fine assessed.

If a library book is lost, please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Schaffer.  Most times the book has been returned!


Destiny Catalog and FollettShelf Use:
~The catalog is available to all students and staff.
~It is available anywhere at anytime including times when school is not in session.
~You may access your own account to manage holds, requests, or eBook checkouts by signing in with your school username and password.


 Donation Policy:

We love donated books, but please be aware of these guidelines before donating any materials!
~The Media Center accepts donations of new or gently used materials.
~Any student, teacher, or parent may donate materials to the library.
~Materials include: books, audiobooks, or DVDs.
~We will not accept torn, damaged, or any age-inappropriate materials.  These materials will be discarded.
~Any superfluous materials will be donated elsewhere.
